JOURNEY TO SELF-LOVE

Today’s topic is slightly personal and different.More of an inspiration. Self-love, self-awareness, self-appreciation, self-confidence. What comes into your mind when you hear these words? How in touch are you with your “self”? These words mean :Regards for one own being and happiness. It’s all about connecting with your “self”…..

Sometimes we get so carried away by the cares of the world. Our jobs, families, school and responsibilities. We end up neglecting and losing touch with our “Self”. We put other people’s needs and other things first and forget ourselves. Life is never that serious; it is important to take a much needed break and relish on how blessed we are. I will talk about five major points we can borrow to appreciate and connect with our “self”.

Connect with your Faith
Spare a few minutes and connect with your God. Faith is the foundation of self-love. Talk to God, read his word, thank him for every blessing in your life. Explore your life and see how fortunate and blessed you are. Thank him for your life, health, and your family. There is always something to be grateful for each day.

Follow your passion
Explore and discover that which pumps your adrenaline. What is that thing you do and you feel – I was born to do this! Start doing it immediately. In my case its fashion, mentoring women, singing, dancing, writing and acting ……. identify it and do it right away. This will boost your endorphins and bring out the best in you. Be patient and persistent and with time, it will start paying off. Remember Rome was not built in one day. An expert at anything was once a beginner according to Helen Hayes.

Surround yourself with people who make you happy.
End all toxic relationships. Cut off any ties with people who make you feel anything less than amazing. Positive energy is contagious and it’s the best gift you need to build on self-love. Surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Do random things together, go for road trip adventures, have lunch or dinner dates, watch a movie, laugh over stupid things, do shopping together. Get out and do things that light up your inner fire. You will be shocked at how therapeutic this can be.

Stop Comparing yourself.
How when everyone else seems to be doing better and thriving at everything? You are not everyone. We all have a different path in this life. The moment you stop concentrating on who is doing what, is the time you will start appreciating the small wins you have accomplished as an individual. Start each day by celebrating your achievements no matter how small they may seem. Pat yourself on the back and celebrate the person you have grown to be. Identify unique abilities that you possess. Learn to love your body and be comfortable in your skin. We are all fearfully and wonderfully made.

Forgive yourself and Others.
There are things we do or did in life that we are not proud of. Everyone has that ugly past that brings bad memories which we are embarrassed or ashamed about. How long can you carry that burden? All it does is weigh you down, cause self-hatred and low self-esteem. There are those people who caused us pain, who looked down on us. Let’s learn to let go and forgive, as hard as it sounds it’s the only option we have to cultivate self-love. Let go of anyone or anything that triggers bad memories or thoughts. We cannot change our past but we learn from its experiences to create a better future.

With that said and done, the outfits were inspired by today’s topic. I was out to celebrate me…with someone who makes me smile, someone who celebrates and motivates me. Just laugh and have a good time. Amondy’s dress is what I would rock for a cocktail, a wedding or dinner or lunch date with friends. I love its unique single strap design and floral prints. I wore my favorite little black and a statement necklace and heels.

Amondy’s dress was tailored to perfection and I love your score from H&M. What you wrote was very inspirational,my problem is the act of forgiveness because I have a tendency to hold grudges but it’s a learning journey,am I right?

Thank-you Meron. Forgiving is not an easy act but you practice and learn to let go.If you don’t forgive you tend to carry more baggage than the other person. The moment you forgive and let go you feel like a burden has been lifted off your shoulders

You both looks stunning. I always make sure I have time for myself. I’m lucky I have a husband who understands that I need to take a break from everything including our son just to recharge myself. Self love is not selfish at all. In the words of RuPaul “If you don’t love yourself, then how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?”
